Coach and Founder

Christie Mulholland, MD

About Me

I took a sabbatical after my department said no.

When I requested a formal sabbatical, my department denied it. So I took one anyway — unpaid, unsanctioned, and entirely on my own terms. I came back to medicine part-time, doing the work I actually want to do for my institution, while building Reclaim Physician Coaching.

That decision changed everything. Not because it was easy, but because it taught me what it actually feels like to choose your relationship with medicine consciously — rather than just surviving it. That experience is the foundation of everything I do as a coach. I wish I'd had more support when I decided to press pause on my career. So, I built the programs that I wish I'd had access to.

I spent years watching colleagues grapple with forces that shrink their impact — doing more work for the same or less pay, making unacceptable tradeoffs to their own well-being in order to do right by their patients. What I've come to understand is that what most physicians are experiencing isn't burnout in the clinical sense. It's demoralization — a rational response to a system that keeps demanding more while giving less. Those are different problems, and they need different solutions.

I am an experienced palliative care physician and passionate advocate for healthcare well-being. I am a Certified Physician Development Coach, trained through the Physician Coaching Institute, and am pursuing my Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). My coaching approach is shaped by extensive clinical experience at the intersection of medicine and mortality, and by several years of personal psychoanalysis that changed how I listen.

I live in New York City with my husband James—a talented chef—and our cuddly and opinionated rescue pit bull, Brindi. When not coaching or practicing medicine, I enjoy dance fitness classes, exploring new restaurants, or escaping to nature to find my zen.
